Go Grizzlies!

Caden was in his first hockey game Saturday. He was so out of his element. He'd never played with refs and against another team before. His coach chose a bench full of kids to play the FAHA Mite Tier III. Caden was chose as one of the defense. He was very thrilled and VERY VERY nervous! He looked pretty lost on the ice. He knows what to do for the most part, but having only talked about it before, he wasn't sure how to implement the skills. He didn't make it back to his net fast enough usually. When he did though, he did well. A few times, his mistakes ended up in the other team scoring. :(
I was afraid he wouldn't want to play again after the game, but they only lost 5-3. I think that once he has a few games under his belt, he'll be much better. You could see him slowing down and tracking the puck. You could see the wheels turning in his head. In his mind he was trying to play the game, but sometimes his body wasn't caught up with his mind.
I had a GREAT time watching. Caden has skated with most of these kids 3-4 years now. Believe it or not, he's never played a real game in all of that time.
That is a rant for another blog entry though. Let me just say - stupid USA Hockey training module! Skills are great, but if no one explains off sides or where the defense stands, how are they supposed to play a game?

That is exactly why Carson only did icepuppies for 1 year. He hated that they didnt play games. If his group was laying on the ice, well guess what? So did he! If he went and skating with his big brothers team, guess what? He was flying around that ice! We moved him to FAHA, but that was 3 on 3 stuff...so it had its downs too, but at least they were playing games.
I bet Caden was awesome!
