Several years ago, we began dental work on Carly to try and solve her breathing problems. She could barely breath and fight off infections. She had been on antibiotics every 6-8 weeks since she was 8 mo. old. The ENT clinic did some scans and suggested an orthodontist (as well as a long list of things she could not be around to include carpet, smoke, stuffed animals, mold, and basically anything "old"). She started out with an expander to spread the top plate, then we moved onto upper and lower metal somethings that push the insides of her teeth , now we've moved back to the upper expander and now limited upper and lower braces. What we thought was a fix for her years of sinus infections and sleepless nights has turned into some painful and long reconstruction. She has had metal in her mouth since she was 6, she is almost 9 now and will have these for a year. On the plus side, she has been antibiotic free for two years now and she breathes SO much better. BUT now she is in miserable pain and very unhappy despite the big bright smile shown in the picture.
